City of Raleigh North Carolina is Hiring a Fleet Maintenance Specialist Near Bern, NC

JOB
The City of Raleigh is seeking a devoted Fleet Maintenance Specialist to provide repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles and related systems. Incumbents provide skilled maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or equipment in an area of specialization. Work may include diagnosing, repairing, servicing and maintaining heavy and light duty vehicles and related equipment; ordering parts; entering data into fleet management system and maintaining other records.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs diagnostics and repairs of heavy and light duty vehicles and equipment systems which may include repair of HVAC, engine, brake systems, steering, suspension; diagnoses and evaluates mechanical and electrical problems; determines need for repair or replacement of components, considering cost and service life of equipment; determines need for external service.May provide road calls and perform repairs in field, request towing services for shop repair and/or transport vehicles to vendors for warranty repairs.Performs preventative maintenance of vehicles, parks equipment and equipment systems; monitors and maintains maintenance schedules; performs front-end alignments; maintains suspension systems; identifies equipment wear or safety issues; fabricates parts, tools and equipment as required;Enters and updates system data related to work orders and activity; maintains activity logs, records, files and reports.Reviews parts inventory, researches requirements and initiates orders to maintain adequate stock levels; issues parts, equipment and supplies; maintains inventory records.Maintains cleanliness and general organization and upkeep of shop, tools, equipment and supplies.Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Knowledge of: Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work.Vehicle and related equipment maintenance principles and methods.Business math concepts.Filing and record-keeping principles.Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations (based on assignment).Customer service principles.Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.Modern office technology.Skill In: Diagnosing, assessing and evaluating maintenance and repair needs.Performing vehicle/equipment inspections and identifying issues related to function or safety.Performing basic original research, compiling and assembling data.Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demands.Providing directions to others in order to meet standards.Providing attention to detail in assignments.Proofreading and error correction.Business math computations.Organizing and maintaining records and files.Maintaining and updating data and documentation.Comprehending reference books and manuals.Operating assigned tools and equipment.Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards (based on assignment).Providing customer service.Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.ADA and Other RequirementsPositions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Working Conditions: Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.Note: This job classification description is intended to be generic in nature.
