City of Pueblo is Hiring a Temp Sports Leader Near Pueblo, CO

This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually, under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Coordinator. Sports Leaders are responsible for all participants in a program area and the implementation of all activities at the site assigned to include, but not limited to enforcing rules, regulations, proper sports guideline, and leading sports staff while engaging and interacting with participants and public to create a fun structured environment.

  • Responsible for planning and implementation of weekly program of activities
  • Direct supervision of all staff at site – includes daily guidance and evaluations.
  • Appropriate management of all children/youth and adults 
  • Facilitation of activities for all groups
  • Establish a positive rapport with all participants/parents in the program.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions, including any state-mandated courses.
  • Responsible for effectively handling all emergency incidents that occur, using mature, sound judgment.
  • Ensure adequate communication with staff/supervisor/parents and participants.
  • Must turn in all forms in a timely manner as instructed.
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS: 
  • Ensure accurate attendance records are always kept current. 
  • Responsible for maintaining current records and data on participants and employees. 
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies and tracking inventories.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and facilities
  • Responsible for umpiring, officiating, and game time management for youth and adult sports programs
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • May perform the duties of similar classifications at an equal or lower pay grade.
Physical Standards:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities for extended periods.
  • Must have the ability to lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • Demonstrated agility and flexibility for sports activities and facilitating game-related movements.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to supervise activities and respond to safety concerns.
  • Proficient use of hands for scorekeeping, handling equipment, and maintaining facilities
  • Commitment to adhering to safety protocols and wearing appropriate attire and gear.
  • Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of an assigned program area
  • Knowledge of recreation, sports, and youth/teen/adult programming
  • Knowledge of appropriate staff supervision skills
  • Knowledge of group management techniques
  • Ability to oversee, coordinate and implement programs in assigned areas. 
  • Ability to implement goals and objectives for providing services. 
  • Ability to provide lead direction to program participants and staff.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend programs that meet community needs. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations in assigned program areas. 
  • Ability to ensure program compliance with mandated City policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work successfully with and provide good customer service to supervisor, other City employees, the public and other agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to perform all the job duties in a safe manner.
  • The individual must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above, this position requires the following:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of experience in a recreational setting.
  • A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment.
    • License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification.
    • During employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license.
