Kickstart your career with real-world experience in government engineering! Join the City of Pomona's Public Works Department as an Engineering Intern. Here, you'll dive into the Land Development and Transportation Division, gaining diverse exposure to the many aspects of engineering – from office work to field operations and interagency collaborations. Work directly with our dedicated Engineering team and make your mark.

Flexible hours await you! We offer a part-time schedule of 10-20 hours per week, fitting into the City's business hours (Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.). Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
  • Current enrollment as a college/university junior, senior, or graduate student in the field of Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Completion of a survey and transportation course.
License
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license is required at the time of application.
  • Possession of a Engineering-In-Training (EIT) is desired
Knowledge of: Windows based operating system, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, AutoCAD, ArcGIS.
Ability to: Provide assistance with: field data collection programs, land development compliance, compliance and permitting programs, data interpretation, and preparation of associated reports, tables, maps and figures. 
This position may assist with researching and evaluating development impacts of projects and alternatives; preparing spreadsheets, graphs and drawings; regulatory compliance permitting and report preparation; and preparing business development proposals and cost estimates. This position may also assist with preparation of utility resource mapping using GIS skills, AutoCAD detail drawing generation, and perform site visits. Assignments may involve coordination with local agencies, site assessments, and infrastructure projects. 
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills: 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Should be personable, motivated and a self-starter capable of working both individually and as part of a team.
  • Position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, good organization skills, outstanding work ethic, and a passion for high quality work products.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
