CITY OF PEABODY is Hiring a North Shore Children’s Museum Executive Director Near Peabody, MA

Under the direction of the Mayor, with counsel from the North Shore Children’s Museum Advisory Board, the Executive Director shall operate, manage, staff, and budget all activities of the Children’s Museum Department. This individual shall oversee both the day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning of the organization and perform duties consistent with the overall mission.

The North Shore Children’s Museum is an interactive museum and hands-on play space offering a wide range of educational exhibits and activities for children from ages 2-8. It is located in Peabody, MA, operates as a department of the City of Peabody, and is subject to the human resource management, financial, and operational policies of the City of Peabody as well as the policies and procedures of the Museum.

This position is subject to annual appointment by the Mayor and Advisory Board with City Council approval.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Executive Director duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Preparing the annual budget; presenting and defending budget requests before the Peabody City Council.

Administering, overseeing, and controlling the expenditure of funds within the constraints of approved budgets.

Building relationships with schools, nonprofit organizations, downtown businesses, and other stakeholders in the community.

Oversight of purchasing materials and equipment required for operation of the Children’s Museum.

Project oversight and facilities maintenance, including compliance with all building and grounds regulatory codes.

Assisting with fundraising and resource development efforts through the direct cultivation of funding opportunities.

Leading marketing and public relations initiatives and promoting museum activities.

Representing the Children’s Museum to municipal government, outside agencies, and community organizations to implement museum services; speaking before groups and boards as required.

Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships to foster museum growth with local youth-based and school programs throughout greater north shore.

Work collaboratively with initiatives supporting efforts within the downtown area.

Managing Advisory Board of Directors and sub-committees, including holding meetings and reporting on museum activities and important issues; drafting and recommending policy to the Board; advising the Board on museum matters and providing expertise and guidance to the Board on pertinent legislation from local, state, and federal agencies.

Managing Assistant Director, Community Engagement Manager, and Program Manager, as well as providing oversight to team of Visitor Experience Associates.

Supervising, evaluating, and promoting the professional development of employees and volunteers.

Working with the Friends of North Shore Children’s Museum, communicating effectively about museum priorities and assisting with fundraising to carry out mission of access and long-term sustainability of museum.

Travel may be required.

Additional duties as may be required or assigned.

Qualifications:

The North Shore Children’s Museum Executive Director must have a bachelor’s degree in management, public administration, museum studies or another related field of study; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a management/supervisory position required; 3 years of non-profit, children’s programming or museum management preferred. The Executive Director must have demonstrated knowledge of museum and/or non-profit operations and management, in addition to experience in resource development, fundraising and grant writing; budgeting, financial management, bookkeeping and accounting; technology, marketing, and community relations; facility management and staff development. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others required. Strong leadership skills and a high degree of motivation, initiative, and resourcefulness required. Exceptional customer service, problem solving, and strategic planning skills required. Any combination of education and experience will be considered.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $82,500.00 - $87,833.00 per year
