Starting Salary: $19.68 - $20.31 per hour, depending on qualifications (plus $.90/hour for evening/night shifts)

NATURE OF WORK:
 
Performs specialized work in areas of emergency communications. Employees assigned to this classification receives, screens, and dispatches emergency and non-emergency calls for fire, emergency medical services, and aircraft emergencies provide medical advice; and prepare various reports. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with departmental procedures. Employees must exercise initiative and independent judgement to properly react and respond appropriately under very stressful conditions. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, audit of tapes, and supervisory meetings to ensure compliance with policy and procedures and established standards. WORK SCHEDULE:  Will vary and will rotate through the first year of employment and includes midnights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work additional hours with little or no notice based on operational needs.  
 
WORK LOCATION: Operations Center, 110 George De Salvia Way, OrlandoHigh School Diploma or equivalent, plus (6) six months of clerical, customer service, or dispatching experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Emergency communications experience preferred. Applicants must pass the CritiCall computer-administered test. Must pass polygraph examination. Must meet strict drug-free standard. Only candidates with clean criminal histories who have been drug-free for a minimum of one year will be considered. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certificate within two months of employment and maintain while employed. Must take and pass the Public Safety Telecommunicator’s (PST) exam from Florida DOH within twelve months of employment and maintain while employed. All employees required to complete 24 CDE (Continuing Dispatch Education) hours every two years to maintain certification.
