City of Novi is Hiring a Firefighter Near Novi, MI

Have you dreamed of becoming a superhero? Now is your chance! Come apply to be a local superhero as an Paid On Call Firefighter with the City of Novi Fire Department.

A Paid On Call Firefighter works part-time for up to 36 hours per week during probation. Paid On Call Firefighters respond to alarms or requests for service, act in emergencies such as storms and medical emergencies, extinguish fires, and perform service work as directed.

Paid On Call Firefighters work 12-hour shifts and have the eligibility to work nights or weekends. The Paid On Call Firefighter position works well for those superheroes looking for work outside of the traditional hours of 9-to-5.

Paid On Call Firefighters must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Michigan Driver's License and a safe driving record.

Candidates must also have the ability to pass the CPAT and NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.

The City will pay for your part time fire academy to acquire your Fire I, Fire II, and EMT certification. While you are attending the academy you can work up to 3 shifts per week to learn the job.

Once you pass your certifications you will increase in pay and then can work as many shifts as you like once you are fully certified.

The Paid On Call Firefighter position is covered under the Michigan Association of Fire Fighters union contract which can be found here :

Compensation & Benefits : Starts at $17.81 / hour and tops out at $24.19 / hour when you have completed all your training.

Benefits include a City-sponsored Employee Assistance Program, retirement plans (457 & Roth IRA), $1,000 / fiscal year Tuition Reimbursement, and gym membership / mental health app reimbursement program.

For a Limited Time Only! : $3,500 signing bonus for Paid On Call Firefighters with no training . $1,000 is paid on the first day of active employment and $2,500 is paid once the employee has successfully passed their probationary period of one year.

Conditional Employment Requirements : All offers of employment are contingent upon passing the CPAT (CPATs passed within the last year will be accepted), a background investigation, a physical examination, and a drug screen (we test for marijuana), and a psychological exam.

Please be aware that the pre-employment process can take up to three months to complete.
