Positions operate, depending on area of assignment, tractors with mowing attachments and/or zero turn radius mowers, city vehicle with trailer attachment, front end loaders, and similarly complex equipment assigned, as well as participating in labor work as needed.
Inspects and performs routine service on machine before work each day and as needed. Drives unit to work site, sets up machine, mowers and attachments, explains intended actions to other workers present. Safely operates pickup truck with trailer in and out of traffic; including backing up city vehicle with attached trailer. Participates in grounds maintenance work; such as mowing and trimming. May participate in the work of repairing and replacing pipe, repairing leaks, filling holes in pavements and asphalt, and in sealing cracks in streets. Assists in training less experienced workers in performing more responsible tasks, including equipment operation. Help in other areas where workload requires assistance. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications:
● Literacy and a valid Louisiana driver’s license are required. Must meet the general requirements of the City’s auto insurance company. Prior working experience sufficient to gain the ability to operate the assigned equipment is desired.
● Must pass the Civil Service Exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement test.
● Must be a registered voter; a copy of the voter verification must accompany the application.
Essential Functions:
Prolonged periods of concentration and coordination operating machinery, requiring manual dexterity, strength, vision of at least 20/40 in each eye and depth perception of 80 seconds of arc or better, hearing and speaking abilities within normal limits, and ability to engage in heavy lifting of up 100 lbs., climbing, digging and exertion, are required by positions in this class.
