Job Description

Complete routine tasks necessary for the daily operation of the ice arena that includes ice resurfacing. Perform corrective and preventive maintenance at the ice arena, associated structures and grounds, including HVAC, plumbing, basic electrical, doors and critical equipment.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Interact with others in a manner that is professional and inspires open communication.
  • Help to create and maintain a respectful workplace culture.
  • Participate in citywide and Public Works safety training designed to strengthen competencies in areas such as communications, maintenance, decision-making and problem solving.
• Perform routine operational functions and maintenance at the Ice Arena.
  • Support the opening and closing of ice arena; including special events.
  • Remove snow and perform ice control from entryways, parking lots, sidewalks, as needed.
  • Monitor cleanliness in all areas, and perform janitorial duties as needed, supporting contracted services or assigned staff; maintain cleanliness of mechanical and storage spaces,
  • Monitor recyclables and trash from buildings, ensuring staff or contractors is performing.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs throughout arena.
  • Order parts as necessary.
  • Move furniture and equipment, as requested. Clean carpets and rubber flooring surfaces when necessary.
  • Inform Ice Arena Manager of needed operation maintenance, needed repairs, needed supplies and product.
• Use preventative maintenance program for ice arena, including some mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Input data into computerized maintenance management system (Work Order System Track internal service orders and focuses on constantly improving customer service.
  • Assist in the management and facilitation of contracted work.
  • Assist Building Maintenance Technician in HVAC maintenance and repair.
• Operate, maintain and schedule repairs to HVAC and other systems by:
  • Check, maintain and operate hot water heaters and boilers.
  • Maintain proper chemical levels in refrigeration and cooling equipment.
  • Change filters in HVAC systems on schedule.
  • Maintain and repair motor-driver units.
  • Change filters on all water systems, ice makers, water coolers etc.
• Under the direction of the Ice Arena Manager; Prepares and maintains ice surfaces.
  • Operates and maintains ice resurface to achieve high quality, consistent skating surface and machine operation.
  • Edges, shaves, and resurfaces ice as needed for best facility operation.
  • Provide preventative maintenance of blades and equipment.
  • Assist in seasonal ice removal and replacement.
• Perform a variety of preventative and routine maintenance and repair work within the ice arena including, but not limited to:
  • Repair all faucets, toilets and drains.
  • Perform painting.
  • Perform minor lock repair.
  • Repair doors and shelves; perform other minor carpentry work such as fixing chairs, locker rooms and desks.
  • Perform authorized lighting maintenance.
  • Perform ice arena and grounds inspections.
  • Maintain and track preventative maintenance and inspection requirements.
• Assist with operating duties as assigned by Ice Arena Manager. Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
• Identify faulty equipment, plumbing, electrical, elevator/lifts, roofs and furnishings and repairs or reports to Buildings Supervisor.
• Perform all OSHA required inspections, i.e., fire extinguishers and eye washes.
• Provide after hours on call service or response to the Ice Arenas; subject to the collective bargaining unit and city policies.
• Assist with operating duties as assigned by Ice Arena Manager. Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school graduate or GED equivalent
• Six months building maintenance experience or equivalent.
• One year of relevant experience related to the maintenance of systems used in an ice arena or other related facility maintenance.
• Valid Minnesota Class D driver's license with a good driving record.
• Certified Ice Technician certificate (CIT) or ability to obtain one within 1 year of hire date
• Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Minnetonka's values with supporting and advancing the city council's strategic priorities.

• Two-year technical school certificate in a related area.
• Two years of experience as an electrician
• Three years of relevant experience related to the maintenance of systems used in an ice arena or other related facility maintenance.
• Certified Ice Technician certificate (CIT)
• Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
• Knowledge of appliance repair.
• Ability to read building blueprints.

• Sitting, crawling (moving about on hands and knees), stationary desk or bench work with neck bent forward

• The employee must be able to carry items from O to 74 pounds from 0 - 50 feet. The employee must be able to carry items such as boxes of boxes of paper, bags of salt, furniture, chairs. The employee must be able to shovel snow.

• Working outdoors; working indoors in cold environments; operating hand and power tools, walk behind snow removal equipment, ice resurfaces, machinery, or vehicles; wear/use respirators and other required safety; driving city vehicle or personal vehicle.
