This position is responsible to help support the City of Merriam’s mission in helping to present safe, fun, well-maintained, and sanitary city aquatic properties; these duties will be performed in a safe manner, while promoting the City of Merriam’s values.

 Essential Functions

• Supervises lifeguards and slide/concession attendants; assists when needed and provides leadership
• Oversees and supervises activities of patrons in the aquatic environment and enforces community center policies and rules at all times and applies pool patron disciplinary actions, when necessary
• Supervises the aquatic areas and reports issues and items of concern or importance to Aquatic Coordinator or other appropriate party
• Provides assistance in oversight of group swim lessons
• Assists in daily scheduling of guard rotation, issues guard instructions for daily operation in absence of Aquatic Coordinator or Aquatic Supervisor
• Attends mandatory in-services and trainings to review all procedures for lifeguard duties
• Guards swimmers and performs swimming, diving, and rescue maneuvers, when necessary
• Administers first aid, CPR, and emergency/safety procedures, when necessary
• Inspects facility and equipment and reports items of concern to the appropriate party
• Ensures aquatic areas are well-maintained for patron use; which includes light janitorial duties
• Monitors pool chemical feeder and tests water for proper chemical balance
• Investigates and responds appropriately to public comments relating to maintenance, safety, and program delivery
• Reports and documents accidents/incidents
• Promotes City values at all times
• Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary
• Other duties as assigned
