City of Manteca is Hiring a PART-TIME RECREATION SPECIALIST I/II/III Near Manteca, CA

BASIC FUNCTION:

The primary reason for this position is to coordinate and be responsible for the planning and the facilitation of components for the Before/ After School Program and Child Care. Staff will work to deliver quality programming to keep students engaged and extend the regular school day in the before/ after school time. Staff must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for the students they teach. The after school staff's ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, will be required in giving our students the stability and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

This is a temporary Part-time position. The successful candidate would be required to work variable hours and days. Hours can vary from 0 to 28 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Specialist will perform a variety of the following essential duties. These duties include, but are not limited to: 

Monitor Enrichment lessons through observation and interaction with site staff.

Develop in coordination with site staff a monthly calendar of academically enriched lessons.

Build a working relationship with school day teachers and work to extend the regular school day in the before/ after school program.

Promote a safe and positive classroom environment

Actively supervise and ensure student safety at all times

Incorporate assigned curriculum as part of monthly lesson calendars.

Attend all meetings and training's that the position requires.

Give guidance and counsel to program/site staff when appropriate and keep all pertaining records.

Assist with program events as needed.

Provide an opportunity for the students to participate in enriching academic activities without regard for high performance skill or ability.

Provide activities in a safe supervised environment.

Establish a student-centered program that considers the needs and interests of all students.

Provide age appropriate activities.

Support the exploration of interests and the development of skills, mastery, and creativity.

Support youth leadership development.

Promote community service, engagement.

Align enrichment projects to supplement what the students are learning in the school day.

Be goofy, have fun and be a good role model!

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Possess qualities of character, personality, and leadership.

Work very closely with on-site personnel.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Be flexible and creative in the use of methods and materials.

Be able to meet and greet the public.

Have the ability and aptitude to make decisions within established policies.

EDUCAITON AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Graduate

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Receive Department of Justice background clearance

Have a clean/negative TB Test

Passing of No Child Left Behind Proficiency or 48 completed college units (For Recreation Specialist II & III positions)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

ENVIRONMENT:
All work activities are performed in or outside City and/or MUSD facilities. Must be able to see and hear, sit and stand for long periods of time; possess an audible voice for communication. 
 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
 Stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, and crouch for prolonged periods; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects and tools and operate motorized equipment. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Incumbents are required to use vision and/ or hearing to identify and evaluate field emergencies, and to respond physically to these emergencies quickly and appropriately.
