City of Mankato is Hiring a Maintenance Worker - Infrastructure (Seasonal) Near Mankato, MN

May work up to 40 hours per week.
Seasonal April 15-October 31.
Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:
 
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
Nature of Work:
Under direct supervision, assists infrastructure personnel in performing work related to the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems.

 Primary Essential Work Functions:
(Experience preferred but not required. Will train!)

  • Assists with valve preventative and corrective maintenance, such as, but not limited to, operating valves to make sure they turn off and on, digging down to the valve if bolts need to be replaced, repairing valve boxes that are broken.
  • Assists with fire hydrant preventative and corrective maintenance, such as, but not limited to, removing hydrant covers and greasing the threads, oiling hydrants that operate hard, and installing high visible flags on the hydrant.
  • Assists with storm water preventative and corrective maintenance, including, but not limited to, operating flood control gates to make sure that they open and close, inspecting and cleaning flood control stations, cleaning creek and pond inlets and outlets, and helping with catch basin repairs.
  • Performs shop and equipment housekeeping, such as cleaning of the shop area, sweeping, dusting and hosing down the area, cleaning trucks, washing and cleaning the inside area, cleaning tools and returning them to their designated areas.
  • Assists with installation, maintenance and repair of manholes and related equipment.
  • Paints and assists with repairs and service of equipment and facilities.
  • Assists with installation, maintenance, and repair of valves, hydrants, valve boxes, and related equipment.
  • May assist with locating and marking city utilities for 811/Gopher State One Calls.

  • Internally – Infrastructure and Public Works employees
  • Externally – Community members
Supervision:
  • Non-supervisory
Other Work Functions:
  • May perform heavy manual labor.
  • Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.
  • Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and community customers.
  • Performs other related work as assigned or apparent.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
  • Must meet expectations of the work functions and knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
  • Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
  • Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to not public data. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, incumbent should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished the not public data must be properly stored according to city policy and the Minnesota Statutes.

Work hours for this position will generally be Monday through Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm; however, work hours may vary; and when necessary, evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required. (April 15-October 15). May work up to 40 hours per week.
