City of Mankato is Hiring a Facilities Recreation Worker (Seasonal) Near Mankato, MN

Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:
 
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and have customer service experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
OR
  • Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may be substituted for the above requirements.
Nature of Work:
Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Recreation Coordinator, the Facilities Recreation Worker (Seasonal) is responsible for supporting the parks facilities by ensuring renters and walk-up users have a fun, safe, and consistent experience. Staff will use a variety of resources to ensure parks facilities are maintained accordingly, including checklists, maps, standard operating procedures, and clear signage. This position is temporary, lasting up to six (6) months, with expected duration from mid-April through mid-October, depending on work location and weather conditions.

 Primary Essential Work Functions:

  • Performs pre- and post-rental inspections of parks recreation facilities.
  • Supports the delivery of programs and events by providing maintenance and cleaning support that meets the needs of the programs and events.
  • Performs and fosters an environment of safe work practices and reports safety issues promptly to the supervisor.
  • Ensures that park amenities are safe, clean, and operational, including, but not limited to, restroom buildings, benches, drinking fountains, signage and parking lots.
  • Promptly reports vandalism and enters work orders as necessary. Notifies supervisor of concerns.
  • Works collaboratively to support the functions of the Facilities Division through a variety of support work including clerical, maintenance, and organizing duties.
  • Assists volunteer groups by communicating locations, work processes, and cleanup expectations as directed by the supervisor.
  • Consistently works toward the common good of the organization and encourages others to do the same.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Conducts themselves at all times in a professionally appropriate and respectful manner.
  • Works safely following safety standards and wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Applies the proper safety and security practices according to established protocols, guidelines, and policies.
Communicates With:
  • Internally – Facilities, 311 Customer Service , and Public Works employees 
  • Externally – Community members
Supervision:
  • Non-supervisory

  • Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.
  • Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of basic care and general maintenance of recreational facilities.
  • Ability to find addresses and locations within the City of Mankato parks system using maps or GPS.
  • Ability to use and properly operate tools necessary for the performance of duties.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability read and/or listen to instructions and understand content of such instructions in order to follow through on next steps.
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing conditions and situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful, and productive working relationships.
  • Ability to understand and follow supervisor directions, work rules, policies, and procedures.

Typical start time is between 7:00-8:00 a.m. and end time is between 3:30-4:30 p.m. Workload is based on seasonal needs and hours of operation. May be assigned a modified workweek and workday that includes weekends and holidays. This position will run approximately 20 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during non-school periods.
