Grade 17

General Statement of Duties

Performs research, assessments, and investigations on various public health disease and health risk behaviors; designs and implements community prevention strategies; performs directly related work as required.

Examples of Essential Work

  • Conducts research and provides information regarding data, trends and programs for disease prevention;
  • Performs testing and health assessments, as assigned;
  • Develops, implements and evaluates strategies for disease prevention and health promotion projects;
  • Evaluates health risks and behaviors relative to health issues;
  • Conducts communicable disease investigations and follow-up as required by law;
  • Supports Department resource development for programmatic priorities, including grant reporting and evaluation;
  • Disseminates information regarding behavioral changes necessary to reduce health risks;
  • Interviews clients, discusses treatment and completes appropriate client education;
  • Makes referrals to private and public social services and health service agencies;
  • Performs community relations and education assignments;
  • Compiles data from client interviews and maintains records for reporting purposes;
  • Maintains data and clinical information for reports on outreach activities; and more.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in related health field; and
  • Some experience in health education, disease investigation or a related health field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Valid NH Driver’s License;
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (preferred);
  • Specific Federal Incident Command Certifications within 12 months of date of hire
