SUMMARY: The Sewer Maintenance Technician performs a wide variety of maintenance and construction related to the installation and repair to water and sewer infrastructure, usually focused on sewer.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a High School Diploma, or equivalent and five (5) years experience in water and sewer construction, maintenance and infrastructure. Must have, or be able to obtain, a State of Maine Water Supply System Class III certification. A valid Class B Maine Driver’s License (Class A license preferred) with the ability to obtain “N” tank vehicle endorsement is required. If not currently licensed as Class B operator, must be able to obtain within first six (6) months of employment.
WORK ACTIVITIES: Act as a crew leader for crews engaged in various water and sewer tasks including laying out work for crew members and keeping accurate records of time and materials used. Complete skilled tasks involving water and sewer main services, manholes, inverts, drops and hydrants. Operate utility installation, sewer flushing, vac, and rodding equipment and perform minor maintenance on such equipment. Repair, install, read and disconnect meters. Turn services on/off, operate gates and hydrants. Perform video inspections of sewer lines, manholes and other City infrastructure. Perform field inspections and surveys of sanitary, storm and combined systems. All Water and Sewer Workers must be available for emergency response in all seasons, including after normal working hours for water, sewer and snow removal operations. Performs other duties as required.
