City of Lewiston is Hiring a Custodian Near Lewiston, ID

Anticipated hiring range is $31,980.00 - $36,697.79/year. The successful candidate will be placed within the hiring range based on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $31,980.00 - $43,585.46.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, performs a variety of custodial cleaning duties to maintain City buildings in a safe, clean and sanitary condition; performs minor grounds and general maintenance duties for various or assigned City owned property.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain the cleanliness of office and public areas of City owned property by sweeping, mopping, waxing and buffing floors; wash windows, walls and woodwork; vacuum and shampoo carpets; wash and sanitize restrooms, cleaning sinks, and showers, and restocking disposables (soap), wipe mirrors and replenish supplies; empty trash cans and ashtrays; polish and clean surfaces and fixtures.
 
Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests; report damages and oversee repairs; maintains supplies for assigned facilities.
 
Move furniture and supplies as directed by supervisor.
 
Rake leaves, pick up litter, bottles, and branches as requested or needed; perform general ground maintenance; operate a blower to clean sidewalks; collect trash and perform general grounds cleaning; remove snow and ice from building entrances and sidewalks.
 
Operate a variety of custodial and general maintenance equipment, including vacuums, buffers, carpet extractor, power tools; clean and maintain equipment after use.
 
Provide work direction to seasonal employees as assigned.
 
Perform other related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or G.E.D. and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
 
LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid state issued driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain first aid, CPR, and AED certification.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic use and maintenance of tools and power equipment.
Applicable building codes, ordinances, fire regulations and safety precautions.
Oral and written communication skills.
Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Basic health and safety practices.
Proper lifting techniques.
Proper mixtures of chemicals and products.
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
Requirements of maintaining buildings and facilities in safe, clean and orderly condition.
 
ABILITY TO:
Use and operate grounds maintenance tools and equipment safely and effectively.
Learn and perform general grounds maintenance duties if assigned.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Work cooperatively with others.
Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. consistently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally. 
Learn health and safety regulations.
Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
Prioritize and schedule work.WORKING CONDITIONS:
Subject to indoor and outdoor environments; Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises; driving from site to site to conduct work; seasonal heat, cold, temperature changes and extreme weather conditions; noise from equipment operation.
 
Physical demands include heavy lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs. consistently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally; standing and walking for extended periods of time; climbing and bending at the waist; walking over rough and uneven surfaces; crawling, squatting, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders and working at heights; manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate cleaning supplies, power tools, and equipment; seeing to observe and effect needed repairs. 
 
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
