Who We Are:
Lee’s Summit GIS staff is a highly technical team and is part of Information Technology Services (ITS) which allows for opportunities to work closely with a wide range of technology professionals. Join a growing GIS team of experts improving services for Lee’s Summit employees, citizens, and businesses. Our GIS system integrates with Police and Fire 911 services to provide AVL and nearest vehicle dispatch. We manage Cityworks to provide a service request and work order system with direct integration to GIS. Development Services utilizes GIS to drive permitting and code enforcement processes. Animal Control utilizes GIS to improve pet licensing procedures. Water Department’s utility billing system depends on GIS to ensure the integrity of their service addresses. The heavy integration and utilization of GIS at the City of Lee’s Summit creates exciting opportunities for additional utilization of GIS technology.  GIS Technician minimum requirements include:

• Bachelor of Science in Geography, Computer Science or Physical Sciences 
• Minimum of one year ArcGIS experience is required 

 
Senior GIS Technician minimum requirements include:

• Bachelor of Science in Geography, GIS, Computer Science or Physical Sciences
• Minimum (3) three years of experience as GIS Technician or similar position required 

Starting pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

• Maintain the spatial and tabular geographic database information for the City’s GIS database and additional data sets. Accomplished by digitizing, data translation from other graphic and non-graphic sources such as AutoCAD, digital data collectors, database files, official approved plans, or interpreting and researching legal documents. Evaluate data set accuracy and follow through with possible corrective actions.
• Follow and improve documented procedures for the maintenance of tabular and spatial data sets and cartographic output. Assist departments on relevant procedures and monitor operations and data to ensure standards are being maintained.
• Perform geographic analysis and design reports and/or presentation graphics as necessary. Organize outstanding requests and seek input on prioritization, presentation, etc as necessary.
• Provide support for ArcMap and GIS application users in all departments. Create template project files that integrate groups of associated data layers for the end users.
• Extract and transfer GIS data for monthly process and data request for internal and external customers.
• Perform quality checks of GIS data maintenance to insure the quality of the City’s GIS data.
• Assist in maintaining related hardware and software, such as plotters and GPS equipment.
• Perform other duties as required, e.g., administration duties required on GIS related software, servers and databases. Implement planned updates and migrations when appropriate.
