The Communication Specialist provides skilled communications services for the Police Department’s Communications Center as well as general communication services for the City outside of business hours. The Communications Specialist receives, routes and transmits emergency and general information via a variety of methods (including but not limited to telephone, computer and radio) for City public safety and highway departments, as well as the State Police and other public safety agencies.
Position is responsible for performing skilled communication work in the operation of the Lebanon Police Department’s Communications Center. Responsibilities involve the receipt, routing and transmittal of emergency and general information via telephone, radio, computer, in person, or via other communication equipment for Police, Fire, Ambulance, Highway, State Police or any other public safety agencies.
Position deals with victims of crime, suspects involved in crimes, and other crisis situations involving hostile, emotional, mental and suicidal situations where tact and common sense must be employed. Incumbent must maintain the strictest confidentiality of all records. Position reports to the Communications Supervisor.
The Communications Center is a 24 hour a day, 365 days per year operational center. Working conditions include four-10 hour shifts with days, nights, holidays and weekend coverages to be expected. Mandatory overtime can be expected with little notice.
A candidate for this position should have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year prior experience with communication systems preferred. Candidate must successfully complete a written test and oral board along with a thorough background check, including, but may not be limited to, a polygraph, drug screening test and psychological examination.
Shift incentives provided upon completion of training.
