The Position

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: Looking for an adventurous summer? This is the job for you! The Teen Service Corps program is a 3-day teen camp that focuses on community service and adventure field trips. Camp runs Tuesday-Thursday for 7-weeks in the summer, 8:30a-4:30p and features two days of community service and one field trip day. The TEEN SERVICE CORPS COUNSELOR will be responsible for supervising up to eighteen (18) teenage camp participants in a full-day camp setting. Responsible for transporting participants in Parks & Recreation vans, supervising and participating in volunteer activities, implementing scheduled activities, supervising field trips and providing a fun, positive, and accepting environment for participants. APPLICANTS MUST BE AGE 18 OR OLDER, WITH A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE AND CLEAN DRIVING RECORD. Must be comfortable making independent, safe, and positive choices in an offsite environment. Prior experience working with teens preferred.
HOURS:
Tuesday-Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm.
Must be available to work this schedule the entire duration of 6/25-8/15; no camp on July 4.

Key Responsibilities

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Direct supervision of camp participants in full-day camp setting
  • Transportation of camp participants to various locations including adventure trips in a 15-passenger van
  • Establish positive working relationship with participants, parents and co-workers.
  • Implement discipline and safety measures when necessary.
  • Assist with volunteer projects and participate in adventure trips.
  • Provide positive motivation to camp participants
  • Ensure respectful interactions between camp participants and volunteer hosts
  • Must supervise participants on weekly field trips including swimming, rafting, paintball, kayaking, ropes course and SUP.
  • Keep accurate attendance records, accident/incident reports and waivers
Complete weekly service hour records for participants

Education and Experience Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MUST BE 18 OR OLDER, VALID DRIVERS LICENSE AND CLEAN DRIVING RECORD
  • Applicants should have experience with teens in a supervisory capacity
  • Be comfortable supervising up to 18 participants in an offsite capacity
  • Ability to follow through on directions and safe decision-making independently
  • Must be available for the duration of the program
  • Must attend mandatory staff trainings prior to start of camp program in June
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Must be able to participate in ALL volunteer activities which may include manual labor, repetitive exercise, lifting over 30 lbs, hiking, working with the public, and transportation of participants.
  • Must be able to participate in ALL field trip activities which may include swimming and paddling water craft like kayaks, rafts, and canoes with little or no assistance.
