Description

The City of La Crosse is accepting applications from students for a part-time LTE Mechanic in the Street Department. The Street Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of streets, snow removal, and oversees the refuse and recycling program. The individual in this position will work with a dedicated team of employees whose actions improve the lives of the citizens of La Crosse daily.

The purpose of this position is to help maintain and repair city vehicles. The position will perform routine maintenance of city vehicles. Incumbents inspect vehicles and equipment, and perform preventative maintenance tasks. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

-Inspect vehicles and motorized equipment such as cars, trucks, tractors, mowers, etc.

-Perform preventive maintenance. Replace wiper blades, lights, and fuses. Change engine oil and transmission and hydraulic fluids.

-Carry out tasks such as washing machines and parts running.

-May assist a mechanic in a repair as needed.

-Maintain regular and predictable on-site attendance.

-Clean shop area and tools.

-Wash equipment and vehicles.

-Maintain equipment/vehicle repair and maintenance records.

Working hours may vary during school year. Summer hours are 6:30AM-3:00PM M-TH and 6:30AM-12:30PM on Fridays. The starting hourly rate for this position ranges between $18.00 and $20.00 per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
