CITY OF KILLEEN is Hiring a Mowing Supervisor Near Killeen, TX

To perform a variety of administrative, supervisory, and managerial work in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the mowing and maintenance of roadway right-of-ways for the City of Killeen.Supervises an operation responsible for the mowing, maintenance, and application of herbicide for the roadway right-of-way to a specific standard.
 
Maintains a GIS data base of information concerning areas to be maintained, such as miles of roadway, square yards, and specific areas for maintenance.
 
Responsible for operator maintenance and repair of vehicles, tools, and equipment. Reviews and analyzes monthly cost reports on vehicle maintenance, repair, supplies, and fuel usage. Coordinates support maintenance and repairs with Fleet Services Division. Prepares specifications necessary for acquisition of vehicles and equipment.
 
Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, assigns work crews, issues written and oral instructions. Monitors and ensures employee compliance with operating rules and procedures. Tracks data on daily work completed.
 
Reviews monthly expenditures reports, submits requisitions or purchase requests, and operates within budgetary ceilings.
 
Interviews and hires new personnel. Evaluates employee performance. Takes disciplinary action and rewards employees as appropriate. Maintains harmony among the work force.
 
Evaluates operational effectiveness and efficiency. Makes recommendations for improvements.
 
Prepares management reports and statistical data as required.
 
Maintains and repairs assigned facilities and grounds as assigned.
 
Responsible for actively promoting and enforcing the Safety Program.
 
Coordinates with and assists other supervisory staff as needed.
 
Maintains continuous communication by radio or other means.
 
Operates mowing and herbicide equipment as required.
 
Must be knowledgeable of city, departmental, and division policies and procedures, rules, regulations, and applicable ordinances.
 
Serves as a member of various committees, as assigned.
 
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license, if required, and comply with City of Killeen driving policy accordingly.
 
Performs other duties as assigned.Education and Experience: 
  1. Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
  2. Three (3) years or more of experience in mowing or grounds maintenance operations; and
  3. One (1) year experience as a supervisor, manager or crew leader in any public works related activity; or
  4. Any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  1. Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, methods and equipment applicable to modern mowing and grounds maintenance operations;
  2. Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, laws, and regulations effecting activities.
  3. Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment;
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, other governmental agency representatives, City officials and the general public;
  5. Ability to supervise others; and
  6. Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 
  1. Must have a valid Texas driver's license by date of hire. 
  2. Must have or acquire within twelve (12) months of date of hire a State of Texas Herbicide Applicator's License in general/basic, weed, and lawn ornamental categories.
  3. Must have or acquire within twelve (12) months of date of hire all upper management level National Institute Management System (NIMS) certifications as required by the City. 
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
 
Various equipment used will include, but not necessarily limited to, personal computer including word processing and spreadsheet, motor vehicle, tractors, mowers, weed trimmers, edger's, herbicide equipment, phone, calculator, radio, fax and copy machine, hydraulic powered equipment, safety equipment, mobile radio, maps, CityWorks, GIS, and water sampling & testing equipment as required.

The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
 
This position is a safety sensitive position.
