City of Kansas City is Hiring a Policy Aide (Assistant to Elected Official) Near Kansas, MO

Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule

Full-time position available with the Mayor's Office located at 414 E. 12th St.
Salary Range: $3,549-$5,323/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Generates creative ideas for new policies, initiatives, and programs to improve the well-being and quality of life of Kansas City, Missouri residents.
  • Works closely with the Policy Director and collaborate with City staff to implement aforementioned policies, initiatives, and programs.
  • Represents the Mayor’s Office by speaking and engaging with the public at neighborhood associations meetings, civic organizations functions, and other community meetings that provide opportunities for residents to voice their concerns and preferences about policy priorities.
  • Drafts agendas and summaries of proceedings of relevant policy-making bodies, such as city council committees and commission hearings.
  • Strives to establish new partnerships with civic and non-profit organizations to address areas of policy concerns.
  • Works alongside with the communications team to ensure policy goals and priorities are communicated effectively and supported by data and evidence.
  • Utilizes data collection and analysis background, as they will conduct general research and project management support for policy-related initiatives.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills/Qualifications:
  • M.A. in public policy/administration, economics, political science, criminal justice, sociology, or other relevant field. Candidates with B.A.s will be considered if they have strong prior experience in policy or program implementation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise reports, recommendation and correspondence.
  • Strong interest in policy and/or politics. Candidates with interest in housing and criminal justice policy are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to balance competing priorities while completing work on tight timelines
  • Project Management experience

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
