City of Inglewood is Hiring an ASSISTANT PLANNER Near Inglewood, CA

POSITION:
Under close supervision, provides planning, zoning, and development information to the public; compiles and reviews planning data; conducts site inspections and field surveys related to the proposed development or other planning projects.

  • Carries out customer service functions that include assistance related to the review, filing, or issuance of over-the-counter permits, approvals, and development entitlement applications;
  • Conducts site inspections and performs field surveys for development projects;
  • Compiles, reviews, and assesses data related to the preparation of required planning documents, including development standards and zoning regulations, and environmental documents;
  • Prepares and disburses required legal and environmental notices;
  • Organizes and presents project staff reports to the Planning Commission;
  • Assists in gathering, designing, and presenting data in the form of graphic, digital, oral, or written reports;
  • Attends and participates in the Planning Commission and City Council meetings, as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS
: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Planning AND one (1) year of professional experience performing essential duties as listed above. Applicants must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of municipal planning practices and principles, planning, zoning and development regulations, and processes and of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements combined with the ability to prepare environmental documentation in compliance with CEQA
  • Ability to work within deadlines to complete assigned projects and tasks, to perform field inspections and surveys and document observations and findings in writing, compile and assess planning data, documents, reports, summarize the findings, read and interpret graphic development proposals and technical plans such as blueprints, site plans, land use concepts, and base maps
  • Skilled in meeting and working with multiple and conflicting deadlines to complete projects and assignments; performing site inspections, using graphic instructions such as blueprints, layouts, base maps, or other visual aids, and providing and following oral and written instructions;
  • Proficient in using work-related computer applications, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, the internet, and other electronic devices to perform essential job duties.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment, may require frequent standing, walking, and bending. Require vision to read the small print, mobility of arms to reach, and hands' dexterity to grasp and manipulate small objects. May be required to use personal vehicle in employment, attend periodic evening meetings, or travel within and out of City boundaries to attend meetings.


THE SELECTION PROCESS:
The examination process consists of one or more of the following: (1) Training and Experience Evaluation, (2) a Written Exam, and (3) a Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a 70-100 to have their names on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview. Applicants whose experience best meets the City’s needs will be invited to participate in the examination process for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process.
