City of Huntington Beach is Hiring a LIFEGUARD & WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR Near Huntington, CA

This is Part Time, Non Permanent position
Pay Schedule:
  • Lifeguard (Entry or Experienced): $16.57 - $23.34
  • Water Safety Instructor (Entry or Experienced:) $17.41 - $24.53

At this time, we have outstanding opportunities available, as we're looking for the "right people" to serve as Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors with the Community and Library Services Department.
 
We are seeking energetic, enthusiastic individuals who have a desire to conduct swimming lessons, diving and lifesaving classes; provide lifeguarding duties and patrols pool decks and assists pool manager/aquatics supervisor in the total safety of pool operation and other related work. Please Note: Vacancies for these positions occur sporadically. The hiring department will contact applicants as needed.
Ideal candidates must possess effective and cooperative communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to relate to a diverse group of people.
Hours worked per week may vary. 
The City of Huntington Beach offers acomplete American Red Cross Swim ProgramOur program is designed to meet a variety of swimming needs. Whether it is learning new swimming techniques, or recreational enjoyment of the water, we have something for everybody. The swim courses follow the American Red Cross standards. Year-round classes are offered to participants age six months through adult and teach skills from water adjustment through lifeguarding techniques. Our swim instructors are certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors and lifeguards.
 
Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 – June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. 
Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.
Under supervision, provides program information, customer service, may collect money or donations, and perform a variety of routine and semi-skilled tasks including but not limited to the following:
Conduct swimming lessons, diving and lifesaving classes; provides lifeguarding duties, patrols pool decks, and assists pool manager/aquatics supervisor in the total safety of pool operation and other related work.
