CITY OF HOBBS is Hiring a HEAD LIFEGUARD (SEASONAL) Near Hobbs, NM

Responsible for assisting the Pool Management Team with the operations and maintenance of the aquatic facilities, as well as the programs and special events held at those facilities. Specifically, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the activities that occur on the decks, in the pools and in the surrounding areas inside the facility’s fence.

  • Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position. 
  • Recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies. 
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations. 
  • Participate in in-service training. 
  • Assist pool management in maintaining a safe, clean and orderly facility. 
  • Test program participants for swimming skill levels; pass participants for participation in more advanced classes.
  • Monitor the use of the aquatic facilities. 
  • Assist management in verifying the assigned tasks are completed. 
  • Evaluate the aquatics staff’s alertness, professionalism and compliance with all Aquatics Division rules and regulations. 
  • Assist management in maintaining related records for various aquatic programs, including daily record forms, incident reports and time reporting. 
  • Daily communication with management regarding activities at the facility. Maintain order, anticipate problems and take necessary steps to prevent or defuse problems I the aquatic facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and knowledge equivalent to a high school background and one (1) year experience as a lifeguard.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Skill in operation of listed equipment. Skill in American Red Cross Community First Aid and CPR. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral instructions. Ability to effectively teach swimming lessons; ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatics program.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Phone, cash register, various hand tools used for pool operation and maintenance and pool testing equipment.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR; WSI is desired, but not required.
  • Valid State issued Driver’s License
  • Residency requirement: residing within the five (5) mile planning radius of the city.*

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
