Job Summary
Operates and maintains the lift stations in various locations throughout the City, including maintaining all assets such as pumps, motors, power control panels, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) panels, generators and station appearance.
Essential Functions
1. Maintains, operates, troubleshoots, and repairs City lift stations, pumps, motors, SCADA control panels and other equipment.
2. Analyzes data and graphs to monitor flow meter, power usage, pump times, etc.; monitors and analyzes data trends.
3. Works independently and regular makes decisions on resolving issues in the field.
4. Responds to lift station and/or plant alarms, patrols lift stations, reports unusual changes or conditions at lift stations.
5. Operates heavy equipment as needed i.e. crane truck, vactor trucks, etc.
6. Keeps accurate records, i.e. charts and daily logs, of all maintenance and repairs.
7. Assists when needed at wastewater plant, water plant, or in collections/distribution division as well as assisting with on call coverage if needed in these departments.
8. Operate and maintain gasoline and diesel engines, backup power generator systems.
9. Ensures lift stations are functioning properly to prevent Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs).
10. Ensure vehicles and equipment are operated in a safe manner.
11. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
12. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
13. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
Required Skills
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
•Ability to maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair city lift stations, pumps, motors, and other equipment.
•Ability to analyze and interpret data and graphs.
•Ability to respond to lift station and/or plant alarms, and patrol lift stations.
•Ability to operate heavy equipment as needed i.e. crane truck, vactor trucks, etc.
•Ability to keep accurate records, i.e. charts and daily logs, of all maintenance and repair.
•Knowledge of various types of pumps, motors, valves, fittings, mapping and piping layouts, hydraulics, electrical knowledge.
•Must have the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
•Must have the ability to complete tasks as assigned.
•Ability to work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect.
•Ability to work any day of the week (weekends and weekdays) and long hours.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus one (1) year pump and motor repair, lift station operations, collections/distribution field work with basic SCADA knowledge or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Must obtain a Class A CDL Texas driver's license within one (1) year of hire with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Wastewater Operator C or Collection II license will be required within eighteen (18) months of hire.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level 2), Titmus vision screening.
