City of Grants Pass is Hiring a Lateral Police Officer Near Grants Pass, OR

A lateral officer must hold an active Oregon DPSST Police Officer certification or a current valid Police Officer certification from another state and been employed as a certified Police Officer. Lateral Officers must meet the Oregon DPSST physical requirements.

Lateral Officers will be provided with duty related equipment.In addition to base salary, incentives available upon verification to Police Officers include:
  • Associate Degree 2.5%
  • Bachelor Degree 5%
  • Second language 1.25%
  • DPSST Intermediate Certificate 2.5%
  • DPSST Advanced Certificate 2.5%
(Associate and Bachelor Degree incentives are not cumulative.)
Lateral Officer Incentives:
  • Signing Bonus Upon Eligibility: $1,000 at the time of hire for a Lateral Officer with meeting the qualified years of experience as a sworn, full-time officer.
  • Step at hire and accrual lump sums: Based on years worked as a sworn, full-time officer. Please inquire with Human Resources for more information.
The residency requirement for the position of police officer is forty-five (45) minutes from City limits as it exists within the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).

  • Graduation from High School or GED and 1 year of work experience are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job as those listed. The Police Officer job description viewed here.
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
  • Meet physical standards as set by the Department of Public Safety on Standards and Training (DPSST).
  • Current certified Police Officer in Oregon or another state with reciprocity.

Cover LetterThe ranking and selection of applicants to proceed in the process includes: experience and knowledge, education, responses to supplemental questionnaire, submission of required materials and meeting minimum qualifications and special qualifications of the position. The initial process may include oral interviews and skills testing. Final selection will require a background investigation, including a criminal history review, and, depending on the position, a psychological screening, physical, functional and/or drug screening.
