The City of Geneva is seeking a skilled Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker to join our team in the Water and Wastewater Division of Public Works. This role is responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and stormwater collection systems.

Essential Job Functions

Including but not limited to:

• Install, maintain, diagnose and repair water systems throughout the City; including water mains, fire hydrants, water systems and valves, sewers, sump pumps, catch basins, etc.
• Safely operate specialized equipment including vactor truck, backhoes, skid steers, excavators, portable pumps, etc.
• Excavate and trench worksites as well as assist with restoration afterwards.
• Troubleshoot to identify blockages and leaks in underground water systems.
• Clean and clear catch basins and sanitary sewers using a vactor truck.
• Conduct emergency locates when necessary.
• Work independently alongside a crew to accomplish daily work orders along with long term projects.
• Respond to after-hours emergency callback when necessary.
• Assist with snow removal operations.

Qualifications:
Successful applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. An Illinois Class “A” Commercial Drivers License is required to be acquired within six months of hire. A Class D Water Operator Certification through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is required once on-the-job certification hours are met.

Special Requirement:

Employees must live within a 16-mile radius (straight-line distance) of the City within one year of employment.

Schedule:

This position works Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Additional overtime, particularly for emergency callback and snow removal, is required as necessary.

Salary:

This is an hourly, non-exempt position that starts at $30.39 per hour ($63,223 annually), dependent on qualifications.
