Under the general direction of the Solid Waste Division Superintendent, this position is responsible for the accurate reporting, inventory management and timely processing of monthly bills for solid waste collection for the City of Fort Myers. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Input data for inventory management in Tower for dumpsters, roll offs, trash and recycling carts.
  • Order Solid Waste containers.
  • Create labeling containers using the Cut Studio vinyl cutter software.
  • Maintain, verify and update vendor applications for roll off permits to be mailed annually.
  • Responsible to be the back-up for credit card purchases and procurement allocations.
  • Monitor fixed asset property transfers and disposals including yearend manual inventory.
  • Update and maintain driver route sheets in Excel daily.
  • Responsible for running the end-of-day reports to review daily transactions.
  • Review reports for accuracy before Solid Waste bills are calculated.
  • Run monthly reports to verify balance information and clear for the next month's billing cycle.
  • Responsible for generating and completing the work orders.
  • Enter and verify accuracy of Solid Waste weight tickets.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the annual Solid Waste tax roll as needed.
  • Assist with the Solid Waste audit.
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping and clerical accounting principles, practices, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers, typewriters, printers, copiers, and telephone answering devices.
  • Knowledge of principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • Knowledge of Mathematical principles.
  • Skill in the methods, procedures, practices, and terminology used in billing and financial record keeping work.
  • Skill in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships not limited to employees, customers, and outside vendors.
  • Ability to learn basic programs and services of the organization relating to service fees, billing, and account maintenance.
  • Ability to perform responsible bookkeeping, clerical accounting.
  • Ability to understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply general and specific administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise tact and judgment in responding to inquiries and resolving complaints and problems.
  • Ability to make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to find and reconcile discrepancies in balancing accounts.
  • Ability to maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and various software packages.
  • Ability to operate 10-key calculator by touch.
  • Ability to work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions and a high degree of public contact by phone or in person.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years' experience in utilities billing or related work, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Work performed is primarily:
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Works in an office environment and sits for long periods of time.
  • Contact with internal and external customers, outside agencies and the general public.
