HOURLY RATE : $ per hour

Overview

TheCity of Fort Collins Recreation Department creates exceptional programs toserve an exceptional community. Our programs are an opportunity for children tolearn new skills, discover new passions, be active, and connect with theirpeers.

Weare searching for enthusiastic, dedicated professionals who are bikingenthusiasts and passionate about working with children to lead youth and teenbike camps.

WorkSchedule

SummerCamps and Programs are scheduled between June 3rd and August 2nd.Camps typically run Monday Friday and are between 4-6 hours in length.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties andResponsibilities The following duties and responsibilities areillustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended tobe all inclusive.

  • Active supervision of children including regular participation and attendance counts.
  • Greet children and parents in a friendly manner.
  • Plan and instruct daily / weekly lessons in bike safety, trail & road safety, bike etiquette, trail map reading, and basic bike maintenance skills.
  • Plan safe, educational, and fun biking field trips and excursions based on camp week.
  • Prepare for and clean up following camp activities.
  • Treat all children with care and respect in all interactions, including behavior guidance and behavioral management strategies.
  • Responsible for general maintenance of any camp materials informing supervisors of missing and / or damaged equipment.
  • Responsible for class / camp supply and equipment inventory, and requesting materials based on available budgets as needed.
  • Attend regular staff and department meetings as assigned.
  • Represent the City with a positive, professional, and healthy demeanor at all times.

SupervisoryResponsibilities

This position is notresponsible for the direct supervision of any City employees.

Therequirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / orability required.

Minimumage is 21

Education and / orExperience

  • Experience working with youth.
  • Knowledge of bike rules of the road and trail etiquette.
  • Mechanical skills and experience with basic bike maintenance (ability to fix a flat tire, lubricate chain, adjust brakes and gears, etc.)
  • Access to bicycle and helmet in good working condition.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Certificates, Licenses,Registrations

  • League Cycling Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
  • Must past City background check.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification must be current or acquired within one month of hire.

Language Skills : Must be able to communicateeffectively with children, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the generalpublic.

Must be able to effectively give developmentally appropriate, verbalguidance to children between the ages of 6-15 years.

Reasoning Ability : Must possess the ability to solveand implement practical solutions to problems, to interpret a variety ofinstructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and toforesee and initiate proactive measures to ensure program quality,customer service and participant safety.

Physical Demands : The physical demands described here arerepresentative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully performthe essential functions of this job.

Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand;walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel;

talk and hear. The employee isfrequently required to crawl, kneel, jump, run stoop, crouch, reach with handsand arms. The employee must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

leadchildren in extended periods of exercise and movement, must be able to controlchildren in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

Ability to spend 4 to 6hours per day outside in all weather conditions. Ability to ride a bike 10 to20 miles per day

The noise level in the work environment can be at high extremes attimes.

The employee must be able to work effectively inan environment of noisy, happy, and sometimes distraught children. The employeemust possess high tolerance for the characteristic behavior of children inindoor and outdoor recreation settings and work effectively in high stresssituations.

The employee should be flexible with the demands and interests ofchildren.
