ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $116,657.00 - 194,429.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)
ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $123,000.00 - 153,000.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

The Director of Electrical Engineering within the City of Fort Collins' Light & Power Utility, will spearhead and oversee all aspects of electric utility distribution system capital budgeting, planning, and design. They will execute effective leadership in directing the development and modification of design drawings, material specifications, and electric utility equipment installation practices. They will also oversee operational procedures that are optimized for efficiency and safety, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, this person will foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the electrical engineering department to meet evolving industry demands and technological advancements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Responsible for Professional Electrical Distribution System Engineering, Planning, Design, Standards and Application of electric utility distribution equipment and installation practices.
  • Directs Electric System Engineering Design and Equipment Installation, Short & Long Range Operational & Capital Improvement Planning, and Electric System Reliability efforts.
  • Directs the preparation and revision of electric materials and code specifications and standards. •Develops and manages Operating and Capital Budgets and authorizes expenditures for capital purchases and special projects.
  • Participates in or directs Operational Engineering functions such as Arc Flash Studies, Safety Reviews, Switching Operations, Circuit Optimization, and other similar tasks.
  • Directs the preparation and administration of contracts for construction and engineering activities.
  • Negotiates and recommends approval of change orders to engineering and construction contracts.
  • Performs research, studies, and utilizes industry knowledge and connections to direct the evaluation of materials, equipment, and procedures for safety, reliability, and effectiveness.
  • Coordinates with utilities, partners and agencies for information and scheduling of engineering and construction related activities.
  • Initiates financial, approval, and permitting process with federal, state, local and private entities. Secures permits and monitors compliance with all applicable regulations.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM
PREFERRED
College degree or equivalent work experience. Some positions may require functionally related certification or advanced degrees
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience Requirements

  • Eight to ten years related experience.
