Actively supports and upholds the City’s stated mission and values. Employees of this class provide officiating duties associated with adult softball programs and tournaments. These positions are under the general supervision of full-time tenure-eligible Recreation staff. Employees are expected to work independently in the performance of umpire duties at games.

• Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Officiates games following established league regulations.
• Keeps accurate score of games.
• Participates in seasonal clinics.
• Arrives at scheduled facility on time, in proper uniform.
• Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

• General knowledge of the rules of softball, how to umpire a game, and the responsibilities associated with the game as an official.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

• 1-2 years’ experience officiating softball/baseball games.
• Arizona Interscholastic Association certificate 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work weekends and evenings as assigned.
• Required to obtain proper equipment and uniforms as needed.
• Ability to pass a written and/or practical exam on the rules of basketball and/or softball.
• Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.

• Ability to handle difficult participants in a professional manner.
