City of Fishers is Hiring a Building Inspector I (Residential) Near IN, IN

The City of Fishers is hiring a Full-time Building Inspector I. The purpose of this position is to inspect residential buildings for compliance with the state adopted residential code, health and safety guidelines, and to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances. Working within the Permitting and Inspections Department, inspectors provide quality and prompt service to contractors and residents in need of permitting and inspection information. The division's commitment extends to technical knowledge and continual modification of procedures to best serve the building community and Fishers residents.
  • Perform residential building inspections and limited commercial building inspections
  • Write and distribute Correction Orders, Notices of Violation and Stop Work Orders
  • Enter inspection data into computerized record keeping system
  • Investigate owner or citizen complaints
  • Meet with and receive calls from contractors providing interpretation of various codes
  • Check zoning requirements for setbacks, sidewalk inspections, drainage site completion, etc. and notify appropriate planning/zoning staff of findings
  • Investigate site building or construction complaints or problems from owners, citizens, department staff etc.
  • Have general to advanced knowledge and/or training of blue print reading
  • Locate underground utilities and participate in 7 day on-call rotation
  • Perform on call, after hours, and weekend duties, when necessary due to emergencies
  • Operate snow plow and participate in snow removal efforts
  • High school diploma or GED; 
  • Current ICC Residential Building Inspector certification required; 
  • Two years previous experience in a related field; 
  • Valid Indiana driver's license including 3 year of driving experience and the ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle;
  • Ability to read and understand various codes and ordinances; 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to interact effectively with others and effectively respond to complaints, concerns, and requests of citizens; 
  • Ability to handle several projects at the same time;
  • General to advanced knowledge and/or training of blue print reading required;
  • Schedule will require a 7 day on-call rotation;
  • Must be able to participate in the snow removal efforts during seasonal needs.
