POSITION SUMMARY:

Under supervision of Swimming Pool Manager and when necessary, the Assistant Pool Manager and general supervision of City Administrator, this position performs public safety and supervised swimming at the municipal swimming pool.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Supervises swimming compliance with pool safety regulations.

· Rescues swimmers in trouble and administers CPR and first aid when necessary.

· Vacuums/cleans pool and tests water quality.

· Monitors operation of pool equipment and chemical dosage to the water.

· Assists in collection of swimming fees.

· Prepares reports on accidents/incidents.

· Cleans and picks up pool area and locker rooms.

· Keeps required licensure current.

· Performs related work as required.

· Interacts with the public, other employees, and supervisors in a polite, calm, and professional manner.

· As requested, runs errands within the city.

· May be transferred to assist other departments in performing other work.

· Acts to properly obey all orders given by supervisor(s) in charge of the position.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· Knowledge of advanced life saving techniques, CPR and first aid.

· Skill in lifesaving of a drowning person.

· Ability to lift and control a person in stress, react to emergency situations in a calm efficient manner.

· Communicate effectively with co-workers, trainees, the public and all supervisory personnel.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of training and experience that will allow the incumbent to acquire the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the required tasks. Additional qualifications, must possess: a current Lifeguard Training Certificate, a current CPR Certificate, and a current Standard First Aid Certificate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work performed by this position is performed primarily outdoors, thus, inclement weather is likely to be encountered. This job requires some heavy lifting. Exposure to toxic chemicals could occur. Normal work week varies. Must have a current Nebraska driver’s license.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 32 per week
