GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Aquatics and Recreation Coordinator, swim instructor’s responsibilities include evaluating each student’s performance during swim sessions and providing feedback, completing attendance, progress, and accident reports, and ensuring that all swimming aids and equipment are in good working order. You should also be able to assist students with special needs to socialize with other students. Works with children and adults of all ages to develop proper swimming techniques and skills. All instructors should be prepared to host group and private lessons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teaching swimming techniques, swimming strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities.
• Assisting more experienced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities.
• Assessing the progress of students and adjusting teaching programs accordingly.
• Monitoring students to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Implementing ground rules for each swim session.
• Planning swimming lessons that take into account students’ abilities and progressive development.
• Identifying incorrect swimming techniques and correcting students accordingly.
• Ensuring that the guard shack and supply area rooms are kept clean and tidy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Proven experience working as a swim instructor or lifeguard.
• Must hold current/valid Red Cross certificates in Waterfront Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instruction, CPR/AED for the Professional rescuer and First Aid.
• Must have experience in Waterfront Lifeguarding and Management.
• WSI certifications preferred, BSI accepted.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Sound knowledge of proper swimming techniques and water safety rules.
• Strong swimming abilities.
• Excellent conflict resolution skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Passionate and enthusiastic.

Proposed Swim Lesson Dates for 2024 summer:

Two sessions extending from July 8th through August 2nd. Each session will run two weeks, Monday through Friday with separate AM and PM sessions. Morning sessions typically operate 30-minute group classes from 10am to 2pm. PM classes generally operate from 4:30pm to 6:00pm, (times subject to change based on instructor availability). Private Swim Lessons are scheduled on an individual basis based on the instructor’s availability.
