Description:
The Inclusion Aide in conjunction with their supervisor is responsible for the supervision and safety of children, teens, or adults with various types of disabilities within the City’s Parks and Recreation programming. Provides individualized support and assistance with guidance and resources provided by the Inclusion Coordinator. Assists with the organization and implementation of activities to enable successful recreation participation.
Qualifications:
Must be 16 years of age or older
Demonstrate knowledge of various kinds of disabilities
Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic in order to provide quality experiences for our participants
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen
CPR and First Aid certification required
NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) certification required
Essential Functions:
Provide supervision and safety for individuals with disabilities including implementing behavior management plans and NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) techniques, if certified
Responsible for the health and welfare of individuals during programs including monitoring distribution and/or administration of medications per caregiver’s instructions/City Medication Policy and seeking clarification of these instructions if necessary
Provide First Aid as needed
Demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment, report any unsafe conditions or situations to the Inclusion Coordinator and instructor
Be a good role model
Maintain effective and open communication with Inclusion Coordinator, instructors, and other staff with information concerning participants’ needs, progress, or situations related to programming
Actively and responsibly provide individualized support as needed to ensure participants’ successful participation in activities
Provide personal assistance to individuals with disabilities as needed, including assistance with transferring, eating, toileting, etc.
Must be able to follow directions, policies, and procedures
Enthusiastically participate in activities
Maintain a professional attitude with participants, families, other staff, and community members
Attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings
Marginal Functions:
Complete availability forms, documentation, and other materials as needed, in a timely manner
Maintain own schedule and submit electronic timesheets in a timely manner, as guided by the City payroll schedule
Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds with mechanical assistance or team lift
Maintain program facilities in a neat and orderly manner
Assist with set up and clean up of activities
Prefer basic sign language skills
Perform other duties as assigned by Inclusion Coordinator and/or instructors
Rate:
Starting at $17.75/ hour
Schedule:
This is a seasonal position that includes a varying number of consecutive weeks (typically 8-10/season) during the fall, winter, spring, and/or summer. A predetermined schedule based on staff availability and interest will be provided in the form of a seasonal assignment prior to the season beginning. Total hours per season varies based on assignment.
Supervision:
This position receives supervision support from the Inclusion Coordinator and/or the Disability Rights and Advocacy Manager
