Description
The primary responsibility of the Recreation Specialist - Facility Operations is to assist the Facilities Coordinator with day-to-day operations of the Edgewater Civic Center. The Edgewater Civic Center houses the Fitness Center, Police Department, Public Library and City Administrative offices. The Recreation Specialist - Facilities must work successfully in a team-orientated atmosphere that provides citizens and employees with accurate information and excellent customer service. Once trained, employees must be able to perform with minimal supervision in a fast-paced facility environment. The Recreation Specialist - Facilities will work 20-29 hours per week. Candidates with flexible schedules are desired as the work schedule varies to provide proper coverage and meet business needs. Civic Center hours are Monday to Thursday from 6 am to 8 pm, Friday from 6 am to 7 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 3 pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Demonstrates a high level of guest service and helps create an environment where guest service is a priority.
· Acts as an ambassador by understanding and fostering the organization’s mission and vision.
· Answers inquiries related to recreation, police, library, and City services, and directs guests appropriately.
· Provides oversight of front desk operations and makes recommendations for improvement.
· Assists in the supervision of part-time front desk staff.
· Follow establish guidelines concerning facility operations such as usage policies, emergency procedures, personnel supervision, registration, and other required reports.
· Receives and processes monetary transactions for rental reservations, membership purchases, daily check-ins, and other payments.
· Reviews and inspects all facilities equipment and operations for safety hazards and cleanliness.
· Follows established guidelines concerning facility operations such as use policies, emergency procedures, guest supervision and revenue receipt.
· Contributes to the resolution of complaints and problems concerning Fitness Center patrons.
· Handles high stress situations and difficult customers with tact and professionalism.
· Assesses supply needs and inventory.
· Become proficient in CivicRec software, enough to help train new staff.
· Communicates effectively and efficiently with the Facilities Coordinator as well as establish effective working relationships with co-workers and other city staff.
· Supervises patrons and ensures safe use of facilities. Maintains security of facility. Monitors and reports suspicious behavior.
· Acts as supervisor on duty when the Facilities Coordinator is not on site.
· Responds to accidents or incidents according to procedures. Effectively manages emergency situations and administers CPR/First Aid/AED as needed.
· Upholds City and Department policies and procedures as well as applicable laws.
· Participates in staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities.
· Maintains regular and punctual attendance
· Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Facilities Coordinator.
Requirements
1) Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
2) Submit and pass a pre-employment background check.
· Experience working in recreation facilities.
· Experience working with customers with a diverse range of backgrounds and ages.
· Experience supervising/training others.
· Ability to communicate verbally in Spanish.
· Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED Certification within first six months of employment.
