The purpose of this job is to plan, coordinate, and manage athletic programs. As well as manage the athletic facilities, finances, budgets and requisition of goods and services. This position is also required to supervise a staff consisting of two recreation leaders (long-term, temporary, full-time, 40 hours/week), and 40-50 volunteers.
Bachelor’s degree – Business/Public Administration, Recreation or Related Field; 1-2 years preferred experience.
License/Certifications? Management knowledge and financial practices
? Knowledgeable and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
? Knows how to develop and administer operations and staff plans and objectives
? Knows how to supervise and manage staff
? Knowledge of athletic rules and their application
? Knowledge of athletic facility layout and design for age specific programming
? Good organizational, management, human relations, and technical skills
? Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations using statistical calculations
? Able to effectively communicate and interact with subordinates, management, employees, members of the general public and all other groups involved in the activities of the City as they relate to the Department
? Able to assemble information and make written reports and document in a concise, clear and effective manner
? Able to develop and administer policies, procedures, plans and activities
? Able to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information
? Able to implement and follow through with goals
? Able to read, understand and interpret personnel and financial reports and related materials
? Able to use independent judgment and discretion in managing subordinates including the handling of emergency situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems
Supervisory Controls: The Program Director assigns work in terms of departmental and program goals and objectives.
Guidelines: Guidelines include departmental and program policies and procedures.
Complexity: The work consists of a variety of recreational and physical activities.
Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to assist in organizing and implementing recreation programs.
Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with program participants, co-workers, parents, children and the general public.
Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically accessed to give and exchange information and provide services.
Physical Demands: The work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Much of the work is physical in nature, including participation in sporting events and games. The employee may be required to run, walk, jump and lift heavy objects including sports equipment.
