City of Duluth Minnesota is Hiring a Facilities Maintenance Laborer (Non-Union) Near Duluth, MN

Job Posting Information

This is a temporary, 67 day position that will be scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

SUMMARY/PURPOSE

To perform laborer duties, working alongside our trades' staff on City building maintenance and for special projects.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

For both one-of-a-kind and repetitive tasks, the supervisor makes specific assignments that are accompanied by clear, detailed, and specific instructions. Incumbents work as instructed and consult with the supervisor.

Does not supervise.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Assist in general carpentry and building repairs.
2. Perform general maintenance and repair.
3. Assist in the painting and finishing of building interiors and exteriors, furniture, office equipment, etc.
4. Perform necessary work to construct the framework for a variety of structures.
5. Assist in the inspection of buildings to determine needed repairs.
6. Assist in the construction and installation of paneling and trim by sawing, fitting, and nailing.
7. Assist in the construction and installation of cabinets, shelving, dry wall, etc.
8. Assist in the installation and repair of rock, metal, and wood laths.
9. Operate woodworking machinery such as sanders, planners, lathes, joiners, and power saws.
10. Maintain and repair tools, equipment, and materials, and keep equipment inventories.
11. Keep the work area in a clean and safe working condition.
12. Be an effective team member by exhibiting self-motivation, supporting other employees in handling tasks, interacting effectively and respectfully with others, showing a desire to contribute to the team effort, accepting assignments willingly, and completing tasks within agreed upon timelines.
13. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Age Requirements
A. Must be 18 or older by date of hire.
License Requirements
A. Possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license or privilege.
Experience Requirements
A. Previous experience as a construction, carpentry, or maintenance laborer or helper preferred.

Any applicant who has been found qualified to participate in a selection process for a position in the classified service who has reason to contest the validity or fairness of any step in the selection process may appeal to the Civil Service Board within 10 calendar days of the examination. (If the examination is an Education/Experience Review, the applicant must appeal within 10 calendar days of the closing date for accepting applications.) The notice of appeal shall be in writing, shall contain a complete statement of the matter in controversy and the relief requested, and shall be signed and dated by the appellant. The notice shall be addressed to the Civil Service Board and be delivered to the Human Resources Office.
