City of Denison is Hiring a Lead Water Meter Technician Near Denison, TX
Installs and troubleshoots Automated Meter Reader (AMR) meters to automatically collect consumption of residential and commercial water meters. Performs tests to calibrate equipment to ensure water meters are functioning accurately. Performs a variety of routine manual tasks for the utilities divisions in such areas as installing, maintaining, disconnection and removal of new residential and commercial water meters. Performs task-based supervisory duties including prioritization, coordination, and execution of work performed by meter technicians in the Water Meter maintenance division. The employee performs related work as required.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Reads and records consumption of residential and commercial water meters using computerized meter reading equipment on assigned routes; verifies that readings are within acceptable parameters.
Performs various technical troubleshooting by analyzing issues in the field and executing the necessary repairs.
Install new water meters; record meter and account information and initiates new service by programing water meter when necessary.
Repairs leaks on water meters; performs pressure checks of service lines; removes defective register and installs new registers when necessary.
Turn off / Lock meters for non- payment.
Replaces missing or broken water meter lids and boxes.
Performs repairs and maintenance of water meter vaults and lids, ensuring safe access and operation.
Performs testing and repairs of residential, commercial, and industrial meters of various sizes.
Responds to utility billing issues and reports findings to Utility Billing office.
Perform maintenance work related to water meter operations in a safe and efficient manner.
Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, laptop; drives City vehicles to work sites, transport materials and assists other staff as required.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; act in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Advanced knowledge of the methods and procedures used in reading meters.
Advanced knowledge of meter service operating procedures.
Knowledgeable of the geographical layout of the city and the location of meters
Advanced knowledge of all read routes.
Good knowledge of basic arithmetic
Good knowledge of safe work practices
Advanced knowledge of operational characteristics of water meters
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to read and accurately record meter readings
Ability to safely operate City vehicles
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public
Ability to learn troubleshooting methods and techniques to analyze problems in field.
Ability to read maps and locate addresses
Ability to work in the field under adverse weather conditions and to stand and walk for long periods of time
Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
Ability to utilize computer hardware and software relating to work and field equipment.
Ability to learn to operate associated software systems quickly and efficiently.
Ability to create and distribute multiple reports through the utility billing software system
Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

Must have High School Diploma/G.E.D.
Must have valid driver’s license at time of placement and must have driving record su?cient for coverage by City’s auto liability carrier
Excellent public relations skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous water meter reading, troubleshooting, and repair experience.
