City of Denison is Hiring an Engineering Technician Near Denison, TX

The Engineering Technician is responsible for coordinating plan review and inspections for new development and other infrastructure construction. Work includes civil construction plan and application review, payment coordination, construction observation, resident and contractor support, and construction record management. The Engineering Technician works under the direction of and reports to the CIP/Engineering Manager. This role works closely with Public Works and other Development Services staff, and external parties, such as contractors, engineers, and residents. The Engineering Technician serves a vital role in the planning and execution of development and infrastructure projects in the community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competence and satisfactory performance of these duties. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  1. Coordinates engineering review, construction inspections, and testing by staff and contractors. Performs intake of plans, permits, and other development related submittals related to third party and Capital Improvement civil construction.
  2. Conducts site visits, construction observations, and materials submittals reviews, documenting and communicating findings with staff, contractors, and developers. Records site conditions before, during, and after construction to ensure adherence to plans and other requirements. 
  3. Ensures construction activities comply with best practices, local standards, and safety requirements. Offers corrective action up to and including job shut down. 
  4. Tracks, coordinates, and performs maintenance period inspections and communicates with staff, developers, and builders when remediation is needed. Coordinates with contractors and staff to assemble submittal comments, including those for civil construction, SWPPP and site notices, construction materials, project close out, and other related processes. 
  5. Coordinates pre-construction activities for new development, including pre-construction meetings, materials approvals, third-party testing agreements, and related items.
  6. Maintains and organizes project records, including inspection reports, record drawings, testing reports, photographs, and other records.
  7. Researches and provides responsive information to developers and Open Records Requests as permitted by State Law. Research property records, including online databases, City and County records, and others. 
  8. Meets with prospective development applicants and helps answer questions about the development process and Public Works requirements. Maintains positive professional relationships with residents, other staff members, contracting parties, and community partners. 
  9. Continuously tracks and updates their supervisor on all projects, including performance, timelines, and potential issues.
  10. Performs their work in accordance with the City’s Core Values of Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Commitment, and Integrity.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in engineering or civil construction coordination or related field.
  • Familiarity with civil construction means and methods. 
  • Must have valid driver’s license with record sufficient for coverage by City’s liability carrier. 
  • Any combination of equivalent education and/or experience will satisfy minimum requirements. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 or more years’ experience in engineering, roadway and/or utility construction, or a similar field. 
  • 2 or more years' experience in civil construction inspections.
  • Surveying, geotechnical, infrastructure contractor experience and training.
  • Inspections certification. 
  • Class D Water Operator License or better. 
  • Class I Wastewater Collection System Operator License or better.
