City of Danville, IL is Hiring a Comptroller Near Danville, IL

The City of Danville is seeking a qualified person to serve as our City Comptroller.

The Comptroller manages and supervises the Finance department and fiscal affairs of the City including preparing the City budget, capital improvement plan, and tax levy. This position works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of City government. The Comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsible, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, business management or a closely related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of like experience and/or advanced training.
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience in this field or a closely related field preferred.

Required Skills: The following skills are basic to the functions of this position.

  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, pivot tables and database development and use.
  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports and business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw solid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Interpret and understand various financial reports and ledgers.

Duties and Responsibilities: The following examples are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Prepare annual City budget and tax levy.
  • Assist external auditors during audit.
  • Maintain financial records in accordance with GAAP guidelines.
  • Audit of all funds and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Review and sign all accounts payable vouchers and payroll vouchers.
  • Sign all purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of department directors, managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Administration of local taxes and fines.
  • Assume daily responsibility for and supervision of finance operations and overseeing the City budget.
  • Control and supervise the collection and posting of all revenues and other money due to the City.
  • Payment of all expenditures, auditing of City funds and accounts.
  • Management and supervision of the billing and collection of utility bills for the municipal sewer and solid waste programs.

Residency Requirements: Any employee of the City serving as a department or division head must establish their principal residence in Illinois, within five (5) miles of the City of Danville corporate limits within six months following successful completion of their probationary period.
