PART-TIME - Museum Technician I - Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (Maintenance Technician I)
The CSPM (Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum), an accredited institution by the American Alliance of Museums, is seeking an experienced museum professional to assist with collections management and exhibit preparation. In this position, you will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with dedicated staff and volunteers to ensure the public has meaningful access to museum collections through exhibits, programs, and research opportunities.
This is a .75 full-time position with benefits. Normal work days will be Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Hours worked will not exceed 30 per week Essential Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
Assist the Museum Staff in collections inventory, data entry, accessioning, and preservation activities
Assist with environmental monitoring, preventative conservation, and integrated pest management procedures
Assist in condition reporting, preparation, and movement of collection objects
Assist in exhibit preparation activities
Support other collections and museum activities as assigned
Monitor and document the Museum’s Outdoor Sculpture Collection
Provide routine maintenance and coordinate and assist contract conservation on outdoor sculpture
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Knowledge of:
Principles and procedures of museum collection's best practices
Familiarity with museum best practices including:
Art handling
Basic outdoor sculpture care
Collections management
Basic carpentry skills
Familiarity with relational databases
Modern office equipment, including computers and supporting software
Ability to:
Work independently and in a team to support various museum programs and projects
Multi-task and work well under pressure and deadlines
Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in art, history, anthropology, museum studies, or a related field
Experience in museum or art handling
Experience using power tools
Experience working in a museum, archive, library, or an anthropology lab
Experience in photography
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Environmental Conditions: Work is performed primarily in a museum setting with some work outdoors and possible exposure to dust, mold, and fumes. The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
