Senior Paralegal/Paralegal - Colorado Springs Airport
The hiring pay range for the Paralegal position is $28.54 to $34.27 per hour.
The hiring pay range for the Senior Paralegal position is $31.11 to $37.35 per hour. 

Reporting Relationship 
As a member of the City Attorney’s Office, you will report directly to the Corporate Division Chief, who is generally responsible for coordinating legal services for municipal operations and who, in turn, reports directly to the Deputy City Attorney. This position will, in conjunction with two senior attorneys, provide legal services to the Colorado Springs Airport, an enterprise of the City. The paralegal will primarily support the two senior attorneys providing legal services related to the development of the Airport’s rapidly expanding business park and airport operation; lease drafting and negotiation, amendments to and termination of leases; review and preparation of permits and licenses for Airport facilities; research legal issues and federal regulations applicable to the Airport and aviation matters; provide assistance with construction contracts; review of grant agreements and requirements; and assist Airport staff regarding insurance, marketing, advertising, real estate, land use, and zoning matters.
In addition to supporting Airport senior attorneys, this position will also be responsible for assisting, processing, and backing up the program administrator and paralegal in handling Colorado Open Records Act requests and Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act requests as a part of the open records program for the City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Police Department. This is accomplished by processing open records requests, gathering records from appropriate custodians, reviewing documents for privilege, submitting and relaying information through the existing open records program, conducting research as assigned and coordinating responses with attorneys, paralegals and the program administrator.
You will support the senior attorneys on projects and assignments related to the Colorado Springs Airport, other attorneys in the City Attorney’s Office providing legal services to Departments of the City, and other legal matters, duties, and responsibilities as may be assigned by the City Attorney/Chief Legal Officer, Deputy City Attorney, or Division Chief - Corporate.
 
Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Perform legal research as directed by the senior airport attorneys and the Corporate Division Chief
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing complex and/or non-standard commercial and airport-specific contracts
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing procurement contracts; ensure compliance with the City's Procurement guidelines and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations
  • Review and analyze federal regulations, including FAA regulations
  • Assist with Colorado Open Records Act and Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act requests by collecting, reviewing, and responding to open records requests to meet statutory deadlines
  • Assist with all Airport related legal matters; ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Assist the senior airport attorneys with reviewing documents for proper structure and formatting
  • Perform other assigned duties of the City Attorney's Office when needed
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations 
  • Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Paralegal
  • One year of full-time, paralegal, or legal support experience.
Senior Paralegal
  •  Five years of full-time, paralegal, or legal support experience. 
In addition to the above, the successful candidate will also have:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study 
  • Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Possess, or obtain within six months of hire, a Colorado Notary designation
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • Experience working with transactional/contract matters
  • Experience working with airport and/or federal regulatory matters
  • Experience working in zoning law, commercial law, real estate law, construction and/or land use development law
  • Experience with public record requests and the Colorado Open Records Act
The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back. This position is subject to a background check.
The selected candidate must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history records check as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The background check process for this position includes being fingerprinted. Fingerprints will be used to check the FBI’s criminal history records.
