City of College Station is Hiring an Assistant Project Manager I/II Near College Station, TX

Under general supervision of the Senior Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager serves as a contributor and participant in a variety of capital improvement construction projects to include but not limited to, structural (new and/or renovations), parks, public utilities and transportation infrastructures. The Assistant Project Manager conducts in depth studies/research and assists with project planning, design, development and oversight of public infrastructure projects ensuring contract compliance, project terms and conditions are satisfied and delivered on time, and capital projects meet quality standards and functional requirements of the City of College Station.

The Assistant Project Manager is the first level of a two-tiered career path for construction project management professionals. Advancement to Project Manager is possible upon meeting the minimum experience requirements for Project Manager and the demonstrated ability to perform more complex assignments involving multiple disciplines. 

1. Perform research and data collection related to contracts, construction and engineering methods, facilities, and infrastructure to assist Project Managers.
2. Assist with managing the professional consultant and construction contractor contracts during all phases of the project life cycle planning, design and construction, including review and approval of pay applications from consultants and contractors during all phases of the project.
3. Assist in managing the scope, schedule, quality, and budget on a variety of capital improvement projects, including the design and construction of public infrastructure and vertical capital improvements. 
  • Assist in facilitating meetings and communication with the A/E consulting firms, City departments, citizens, and construction contractors.
  • Review all building and infrastructure plan designs; coordinate with departments to review milestone plan submittals during the design phase and provide comments/feedback in a timely manner.
  • Work with land agent to acquire ROW and easements.
  • Work with the City’s Purchasing and Legal Department to prepare contracts.
  • Assist with developing project schedules; monitoring and controlling project budgets; tracking Requests for Information (RFIs); 
  • Review payment applications from consultants and contractors.
4. Oversee vertical capital improvement projects to include, but not limited to, developing preliminary construction cost estimates, and managing project scopes, schedules and budgets for new building/facility and building/facility renovation projects.
  • Develop solicitations and lead the selection process for professional consultants for projects with input and collaboration from members of the Management Team and other internal stake holders.
  • Collaborate and coordinate projects directly with the Department Director who will ultimately manage the staff, operations and/or programs to be located at the facilities.
5. Assist during the construction phase of the project, including reviewing RFI’s, change orders test reports, performing on-site field observations and attending weekly progress meetings during all phases of construction activities, and assisting Engineering Construction and Building Inspectors on-site. 
6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Assistant Project Manager I

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, construction science, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Valid Texas Driver’s License

Knowledge of Microsoft Projects or other scheduling software and other industry standard computer programs

Ability to read architectural and engineering plan sets, with a knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC Systems, and civil engineering standards

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Assistant Project Manager II 

Must meet all requirements listed above for Assistant Project Manager I plus the following:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, construction science, or related field and two (2) to four (4) years of experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred qualifications for both Assistant Project Manager I and Assistant Project Manager II

Preferred: Knowledge of Microsoft Projects or other scheduling software and other industry standard computer programs

Municipal government experience

Public speaking experience
