City of Clovis, NM is Hiring a Summer Youth Program Coordinator Near Clovis, NM

Job Summary:
The Summer Youth Program Coordinator position is a seasonal position that provides leadership and guidance for a group of campers, ensuring a quality experience to children age 5-11. The eight-week program will take place between June and July 2023 and is sponsored through a grant from the State of New Mexico Outdoor Equity Program and the City of Clovis. Under the direction of the Recreation Administrator, the Summer Youth Program Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with the planning, development and implementation of program activities.
 
**This position requires a fingerprint background check in addition to other pre-employment clearances in accordance with the City of Clovis policy.**Typical Duties:
  • Overall implementation of day to day and weekly activities.
  • Assist with training and coordinating schedules.
  • Prepare, inventory, and maintain program resources.
  • Work with visiting speakers/organizations throughout the summer to coordinate and implement programming schedule.
  • Plan/review weekly schedule with Summer Youth Program Assistants.
  • Provide daily support/ back up for summer Summer Youth Program Assistants.
  • Abide by all City of Clovis personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a safe environment.
  • Assist with beginning and end of season duties.
  • Supervise activities of children, including but not limited to sports, music, games, art, swimming, and outside activities. 
  • Plan and implement a progressive camp program.
  • Provide opportunities for development of awareness in each camper. 
  • Provide an enjoyable experience for each camper.
  • Participate in the general planning of the camp program.
  • Set a good example in respect and care for the facilities and the out-of-doors.
  • Create and maintain group unity by making everyone feel a part of the group. 
  • Contact parents of campers as needed during camp to maintain good public relations. 
  • Check group attendance each morning. 
  • Keep the safety of campers in mind at all times. 
  • Campers are never to be left unattended. 
  • Know the whereabouts of the group at all times, including early morning arrivals, bus, camp, trips, etc. 
  • Ability to implement age-appropriate/developmentally-appropriate program activities 
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with people from different background.
  • Keep all equipment in good operating condition and be responsible for returning items to their proper place.
  • Maintain required program records.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff. 
  • Assist in maintaining and cleaning of assigned areas. 
  • Report all program changes and equipment needs to Recreation Administrator. 
  • Report to the Recreation Administrator any difficult or unusual situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children.
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, fine arts, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, science, technology, engineering, recreational games, etc. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with youth and program leadership.
  • Ability to assist children and other staff in emergency situations. 
  • Visual and auditory ability to recognize environmental hazards. 
  • Ability to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures. 
  • Ability to pass a background check to include fingerprints.
 
Licenses and Certificates:
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications by the start date of the program. 
Work Environment:
  • Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
  • Interruptions of work are routine. 
  • Job responsibilities include both inside and outside duties. 
  • Flexibility and patience are required. 
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. 
  • After-hours work may be required. 
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions. 
Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
Safety and Health Requirements: 
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
Equipment/Material Handled:
  • Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
