This is responsible administrative, professional and technical work in assisting the Public Works Director in supervising the activities of: administration; streets and drainage, sanitation, utility operations constructions, property management, and vehicle maintenance in the public works department. Work involves planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the work of a number of subordinates who are in charge of specific divisions. The incumbent assists in developing major departmental policies, in planning and implementing public works programs and in carrying out difficult administrative decisions. The work involves constant study of a familiarity with the operations, programs, procedures of the divisions, including budget preparation, personnel actions, and disciplinary actions. The incumbent exercises some independent judgement and discretion in carrying out the responsibilities. The incumbent works under general supervision of the Public Works Director and work is reviewed through conferences, activity reports, analysis of complaints, and accomplishment of desired results.
