City of Cleveland Heights is Hiring a Communications Specialist Near Ohio, OH

SUMMARY: Incumbent reports to the Director of Communications & Public Engagement and is responsible for creating and distributing compelling content across targeted social media platforms to communicate with the city’s audiences and drive traffic to its websites. The incumbent prepares and edits system-level communications that maintain high standards for quality, consistency, and suitability for intended audiences. These include executive-level talking points, correspondence, press releases, news announcements, web content, articles, and other communications. This person is a strategic thinker with sound judgment and the ability to deliver quality communications on short deadlinesESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Write and/or edit articles, web content, presentations, marketing materials, and other communications to internal and external audiences.
  • Draft and/or edit talking points, articles, strategic briefings, correspondence, and other communications.
  • Collaborate with other staff to create and distribute electronic communications, including news updates, emergency alerts, and other communications to external and internal audiences.
  • Manage all City social media accounts and social media campaigns and monitor and regularly summarize all account activity.
  • Prepare social media posts, including writing messages and preparing graphics, photos, and videos.
  • Maintain a consistent identity on social media.
  • Ensure compliance with the City’s social media policies and guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain a calendar of short- and long-term social media opportunities and posts.
  • Assist in the development of a social media plan and strategy and integrate social media into all Communications Department activities and programs.
  • Identify and target existing and potential audiences for the City’s social media communications and grow the City’s social media audience.
  • Implement social media promotions and engagement programs and manage the City’s advertising on social media and the Internet.
  • Organize and manage communications assets, including photos, videos, publications, and other potential social media content.
  • Work with other departments and Communications Department staff to develop electronic communications.
  • Edit communications with an emphasis on quality and message consistency.
  • Effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal formats, engage and attract followers online, and build and maintain relationships.
  • Monitor effective metrics for social media programs and analyze results to improve future campaigns.
  • Stay on top of new and emerging social media trends and identify additional communications opportunities.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Knowledge of:
  • Customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of all forms of social media with emphasis on growing presence
  • Design platforms for creating engaging graphics and stories.
  • Current public relations, marketing, and journalistic practices and techniques.
  • Communications research and evaluation of communications effectiveness.
  • English language, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Using social media platforms.
  • Using modern office equipment.
  • Writing and editing with a keen sense of style.
  • Using a computer and related software applications.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, advertising/marketing, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
