City of Clarksburg is Hiring an IT Specialist Near Clarksburg, WV

The City of Clarksburg is seeking qualified applicants for the position of IT Specialist. This position is an information technology professional who monitors city-way computer systems, assesses, and troubleshoots errors and lag, and updates and upgrades systems. This position is responsible for city-owned computers, smartphones, tablets, point-of-sales machines, and databases. The IT Specialist promotes digital security, provides technical support to employees, and ensures systems are running effectively and efficiently for the city’s needs. This position reports directly to the City Attorney who will provide direction in terms of broadly defined goals and objectives. The City Manager is kept informed of all matters.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The job duties and responsibilities listed below are those that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The City Manager may modify this description as the needs and requirements of this position.

  • Maintains the computer networks, provides technical support, and ensures technological operations run smoothly for all city-wide infrastructure.
  • Monitors and maintains the city’s computer systems, installs, configures, and updates hardware and software (including Incode), and solves technical problems. Anticipates and reports the cost of replacing or updating computer items.
  • Creates accounts, repairs, and replaces equipment, as necessary.
  • Research and tests new technology.
  • Maintains and improves the technical systems of the city facilities to ensure all employees have the technology they need to complete their work and the city’s important files and information remains safe and intact.
  • Reviews diagnostics and assesses the functionality and efficiency of systems.
  • Implements security measures and monitors security certificates and compliance requirements.
  • Offers technical support to staff and troubleshoots computer problems.
  • Exhibits impeccable organizational skills to communicate and work effectively.
  • Sets and adheres to standard operating procedures regarding safe and effective handling of facilities, equipment, and maintenance thereof as approved by the City Manager.
  • Remains up to date on industry trends and new technology and processes.
  • Communicates any serious issues or concerns to your department head and the City Manager.
  • Allert the City Manager of any damage to equipment or facilities, as well as any need for necessary communications hardware and software.
  • Promotes an image of professional courteous service as a representative of the City of Clarksburg. Perform related work and duties as needed or assigned by your department head or City Manager. Maintains the confidentiality of all records, reports, and correspondence. Performs all duties and functions in accordance with policy and procedure set forth by the City of Clarksburg Employee Handbook.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, such as computer science, information technology or computer engineering is highly preferred. Previous experience with Incode is desired. Must have extensive knowledge and proven work experience with servers and large networks. Preference is given to candidates who have pursued specialized training through certifications including CompTIA Security , Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Cisco Certified Network Association (CCNA Security). On-the-job training based upon the City’s needs may be required or preferred by the City Manager. Requires passing a professionally administered pre-employment drug testing and background check.

Physical Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Duties:

The position performs work where the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear, and reach with hands and arms or sustained keyboard operations. The employee is occasionally required to walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
