Mayor's Summer Youth Jobs Program

Job Description

Position Title: Office Assistant

Department: Parking Department

Location: 915 Quarrier Street

Number of open positions: 1

Anticipated Start Date: June 3, 2024

End Date: August 9, 2024

Hours of work per week: part-time / 28 hours per week / Monday through Thursday

Business/Work Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with ½ hour unpaid lunch)

Pay Rate: $10.00

General Description:

The purpose of this class within the organization is to implement a variety of community, recreational, cultural, special events, and other programs at City of Charleston designated facilities for youth ages 16 - 20 years of age. Program employment dates are June 3, 2024 - August 9, 2024, and may be extended based on employee availability and departmental needs.

Work hours: Maximum 35 hours per week.

This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Responsibilities, tasks, and projects:

Filing, scanning, inventory, and other office duties as needed.

Candidate requirements:

Typing and computer skills required.

Ability to read and understand English.

The ability to lift 10 pounds.

Physical mobility for moving room to room and flexibility to file documents in cabinets or boxes.

  1. Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.

  3. Ability to understand and comply with City and departmental guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations.
