OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE Employee must facilitate a wide range of maintenance functions ensuring the continuing operation and efficiency of Chanhassen’s Public Water Distribution and Public Sanitary Sewer collections systems. RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Sewer/Water Utility ForemanPAY Expected Hiring Range: $27.69-$30.26 HourlyFull Salary Range: $27.69-$38.68 Hourly SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Inspect and maintain wells, pressure reducing stations, and reservoirs. Check equipment operation and service hydrants, valves, curb boxes, and service lines. Assists with minor and major system repairs, and utility location marking as required. Inspect and maintain sewer collections system including repair or breaks, cleaning of lines, maintenance of sewer structures. Services lift station pumps, controls, and grounds maintenance. Install, replace and repair water meters and meter reading radios. Troubleshoot issues with automatic meter reading systems.Assist water treatment plant operations as directed. Manage utility infrastructure data on laptops, tablets, and other mobile devices. Manage, edit, and collect GIS data relating to utility assets. Perform miscellaneous assignments as directed to insure uninterrupted utility service to City residents and businesses. Must be able to communicate effectively and courteously with the public. Must be able to operate different types of vehicles and equipment such as skid steer, vac truck, forklift, dump trucks, etc., and assist in the repair of such.Assists Streets and Parks departments as necessary with snow and ice removal, mowing, tree cutting, chipping, and other duties as needed. Inspect new and existing utility projects for discrepancies. Must be knowledgeable and comply with all safety procedures of OSHA and the City for "Confined Space Entry." Must wear personal protective equipment when necessary. Perform other assigned tasks as directed. Maintain an acceptable safety record. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Subject to 24 Hour on-call scheduling. When on-call, must have the ability to respond to Public Works Facility within 35 minutes of being notified. May be required to work during emergency conditions and adverse weather conditions. Frequently positions self to maneuver objects weighing up to 25 lbs. and occasionally weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasionally position self to use up to 70 lbs. of force and up to 200 lbs. of torque occasionally, to operate valve, hydrants, etc. Ability to properly use and maneuver various powered and non-powered tools and/or equipment (to include but not limited to: shovels, probing equipment, measuring devices, wrenches, etc.). Pre-employment physical, drug testing, and criminal background check will be required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent. Vocational or apprentice training in water and waste water systems desired. General knowledge of the theory, operation, repair and construction procedures of water and wastewater systems.3 years minimum experience in maintenance or construction related to water and sanitary sewer systems preferred.License/Registrations: Valid Class A CDL and tanker endorsement or ability to obtain in 6 months. Valid Class "D" Sewer and Water licenses or ability to obtain in in 6 months.EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION Must have the ability to operate a computer, copier, tablet, and telephone. Hours of work are typically between 7:00am-3:00pm M-F. Daily reporting to the Chanhassen Public Works Facility. At times deadlines and workload may dictate the need to work additional hours, including some weekends, and require performance at a faster pace.
